Addiction Patterns

Something you have stopped many times and started again.

What the Word says

Scripture · KJV
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:16

Scripture · KJV
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:1-2

Practical reflection & suggested application — not Scripture

Kingdom principle

Scripture pairs confession with community and healing. Repeating patterns are rarely broken privately, and needing help is not a lack of faith.

What this can look like in real life

You have promised yourself it was the last time more times than you can count.

What to do today

  • Tell one trusted person the actual truth, without softening it.
  • Contact church leadership about ongoing support.
  • Remove the immediate access today.
  • Consider professional help — this is wisdom, not weakness.

What to avoid

  • Fighting it alone.
  • Reading a relapse as proof you cannot change.
  • Replacing it with something equally costly.

Prayer

Father, I cannot do this by myself. Bring people around me and give me the humility to receive help. Amen.

Kingdom check

Who knows the whole truth?

What support have I refused so far, and why?

When to seek pastoral support

Some things are not meant to be carried alone. If this is ongoing, heavy or affecting your safety or your family, reach out to church leadership. Nothing in your private journal is ever shared — you choose what to send.

Reach out about addiction patterns

If you are in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services right away.
