Heart & Emotions
Envy
Not just wanting what they have — resenting that they have it.
What the Word says
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.”
Proverbs 14:30
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
Philippians 2:3-4
Practical reflection & suggested application — not Scripture
Kingdom principle
Envy corrodes the one who carries it. The Kingdom answer is honor: deliberately esteeming others rather than measuring against them.
What this can look like in real life
You find yourself hoping, quietly, that it does not work out for them.
What to do today
- ♕Name it honestly to God as sin rather than as a mood.
- ♕Do one hidden good thing for the person you envy.
- ♕Write your own next faithful step and take it this week.
What to avoid
- —Speaking about them in a way that lowers them.
- —Pretending you do not feel it.
- —Building your goals around outrunning someone.
Prayer
Lord, free me from measuring my life against anyone else's. Give me joy in Your assignment for me. Amen.
Kingdom check
Whose life am I using as the measure of my own?
What has God asked of me that I have delayed while watching them?
