Unforgiveness

You know what the Word says. You are just not there yet.

What the Word says

Scripture · KJV
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:14-15

Scripture · KJV
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Colossians 3:13

Practical reflection & suggested application — not Scripture

Kingdom principle

Forgiveness in Scripture is a decision to release a debt, not a feeling that the wrong no longer matters. Trust is rebuilt separately, over time, with evidence.

What this can look like in real life

You have been told to forgive so often that the word itself has started to feel like pressure rather than freedom.

What to do today

  • Say specifically what you are releasing: name the person and name the debt.
  • Decide what boundary stays in place — releasing a debt is not restoring access.
  • Write the truth about the harm somewhere private so you stop carrying it alone.
  • Repeat the decision each time the memory returns; it will return.

What to avoid

  • Treating forgiveness as a statement that the harm was acceptable.
  • Forcing reconciliation with someone who is still doing harm.
  • Measuring your obedience by how you feel afterward.

Prayer

Lord, I choose to release what I cannot carry. Where my heart has not caught up with my decision, be patient with me and keep working. Amen.

Kingdom check

Am I withholding forgiveness, or withholding trust? They are not the same.

What would change in my week if I actually let this go?

When to seek pastoral support
